AlNiCo permanent magnets are made of an alloy consisting mainly of iron, aluminum, nickel and cobalt, but may contain small amounts of other elements (such as copper and titanium). AlNiCo brands vary with cobalt content, ranging from 0 (AlNiCo 3) to 40 percent (AlNiCo 8). The lower aluminum-nickel-cobalt grades (2, 3, and 4) are undirected magnet grades whose magnetic properties are homogeneous and equal in all directions. These models have a relatively low magnetic output. Anisotropic grades (AlNiCo 5, 6, 8, and 9) are designed to produce a high magnetic output in a specified direction. Orientation can be achieved during heat treatment by cooling the product at a temperature of approximately 2000 degree F (1093 degree ) at a controlled rate in a magnetic field conforming to the preferred direction of magnetization.AlNiCo magnet has the advantages of high remanence (up to 1.35T), low coercivity (usually less than 160kA/m) and nonlinear demagnetization curve, so AlNiCo magnet is easy to be magnetized, but also easy to demagnetize. Special attention should be paid to its particularity in the design and manufacture of magnetic circuit of devices, and the magnet must be stabilized in advance. AlNiCo permanent magnet material has low mechanical strength, high hardness, crisp quality and poor machinability, so it can not be designed as structural parts. It can only carry out a small amount of grinding or electric discharge machining during processing, and can not use forging and other mechanical processing.
